Doctors:
Dr. Chris Feil was born and raised in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Growing up, Dr. Feil was plagued by various injuries. One injury would lead to the next, it seemed like it became a never-ending cycle of stress fractures, ligament sprains, bursitis, muscle “pulls”, back pain, neck pain, tendinitis, even a separated shoulder. More frustrating then the pain of those injuries was the temporary loss of the ability to exercise and stay active. This frustration was compounded by the fact that most healthcare providers never provided a concrete answer of why the injuries would occur and how to prevent them from happening again in the future. While at Iowa State University, Dr. Feil discovered his passion was to learn about the function of the human body and to apply what he learned to help other people live healthy active lifestyles.
He earned an undergraduate degree in Exercise Science from Iowa State University After ISU, he enrolled at Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa; focusing his studies on injury care and rehabilitation. Prior to his graduation from Palmer, he and his wife moved to the east coast for opportunities to learn and grow together. Initially, Dr. Feil participated in a 6 month internship under Dr. Bill Morgan at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland. At that time, only two chiropractic students a year were selected for the internship. At the Naval Hospital, he learned to work in an integrated healthcare setting, while helping heal our wounded warriors. For the next three years, He worked as an associate doctor in a sports and rehabilitation clinic in Baltimore. His employer and mentor, Dr. Allan Sokoloff works with the Baltimore Ravens as the official team chiropractor. Working with Dr. Sokoloff was invaluable in learning how to integrate and work within a sports medicine team. Dr. Sokoloff reinforced how responsibility and communication are just as valued in healthcare, as technical skill and knowledge.
While in Maryland, Dr. Feil had the opportunity to work as a team chiropractor for two Division I Athletic Departments and a AA baseball team (University of Maryland Terrapins, UMBC Retrievers, and the Bowie Baysox the AA affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles). Dr. Feil also had the opportunity to work with current and former professional football players and USA Olympic athletes while working in Baltimore. Currently, Dr. Feil is a consultant for the Iowa State University Sports Medicine Department.
Working within a sports medicine rehabilitation setting has let him focus on techniques to complement his ability to use adjusting (manipulation) in the spine and extremities. He is proficient in myofascial release techniques including ART© and other instrument assisted soft tissue techniques. Dr. Feil prides himself on providing all of his patients with a progressive home based exercise program that leads to faster recovery rates and independence through active self-care. As a chiropractor, Dr. Feil tries to offer something different by combining traditional chiropractic care in conjunction with highly effective soft tissue techniques and progressive rehabilitative exercise programs, all under one roof.
Dr. Feil has always been a physically active person, and continues to be, only now with much less time missed spent injured. He has participated in several road races and marathons and he continues to run and bike recreationally. He also in enjoys spending time in the outdoors hiking and camping. One of his life goals is to thru-hike the Appalachian Trail. Also in his free time he helps his wife Kate, who is the Director of the Story City Museums, with events and projects at her organization.
