Performance Maintenance Care Program
Team Chiropractic and Rehabilitation incorporates a conservative and unique approach of preventative care to help maintain an athletes performance. This service is specific to athletes and is the called the Performance Maintenance Care Package. It encompasses chiropractic adjustments to the spine and extremities, manual therapy to the soft tissues, functional exercise advice, and most importantly training advice. As a part of the treatment plan we develop a functionally integrated exercise program specific to your sport. It encompasses posture/body awareness training, sight specific/core stabilization, specific corrective exercises to help reduce future injuries. By integrating this preventative program in to a normal workout routine, an athlete can maintain their healthy lifestyle while competing at the highest level. Each Performance Maintenance Care visit is preventative, with the goal of engaging and empowering athletes with the tools and knowledge to better protect themselves from injury. An injury is much easier to treat when it is caught in its early stages, rather than waiting until those symptoms force you to stop the activity you love.
This provides several benefits to the athlete:
-Avoid Further Injury
-Maintain Performance throughout competition and training
-reduce Pain leaves after training or competition
-Improved/Maintained joint and muscle range of motion
-Another training resources
Regular maintenance care has been shown to help keep your performance at a high level, rather than being slowed down by small aches and pains. Performance care addresses the subtle or gross changes that are the result of stress placed on overworked muscles. This physiological stress placed on an athlete's body can have tremendous impact on the time and effort required to perform an activity. Certain factors like demanding training regimes, repetitive motions (swimming, running, cycling), and overworked muscles can all play a factor in these changes.
These repetitive motions create constant tension and pressure which often results in inflammation and swelling of the involved soft tissue. The body naturally responds to this inflammation by laying down scar tissue (cross fibers across the tissue) in an attempt to heal and stabilize the affected area. The problem is that this scar tissue restricts motion, reduces circulation, inhibits nerve function, causes ongoing friction and pressure; ultimately resulting in the production of yet more cross fibers and adhesions across inflamed soft tissues.
Even though physical training factors can be modified, the biomechanical restrictions that have been created in the athlete’s body are seldom addressed. These lead to future injuries and inhibit the athlete from reaching his or her full performance potential. Most of these injuries could have been avoided with the help of Team Chiropractic and Rehabilitation.
Remember, years of training and competition can place a tremendous amount of physiological stress on an athlete's body. This can impact the time and effort required to perform an activity. These changes are characterized by unfavorable adaptations in the body such as pain and decreased ranges of motion in the joints and muscles, further leading to fatigue and decreased performance. Many athletes spend a great deal of time thinking about their training plan without giving enough consideration to reducing negative stress and focus on recovery strategies. When the athlete experiences pain, the damage has already occurred. Treating an injury it is always difficult than preventing it.
